Over the last few weeks I have had a number of concerned parents of teens and young adults getting in touch, as well as young adults themselves. The common theme is very much around mental health and anxiety.
This appears to be an energetic hangover from the Covid years when lockdowns created separation and isolation during what would normally be a sociable and engaging time for this age group. This has created a new level of anxiety and disconnectedness, along with the natural stresses of exams and of leaving childhood and moving into adulthood. Some of the clearest statements I found around the impact of the Covid years on adolescents are noted below. Young Minds organisation states “80% of respondents agreed that the coronavirus pandemic had made their mental health worse. 41% said it had made their mental health “much worse”, up from 32% in the previous survey in March. This was often related to increased feelings of anxiety, isolation, a loss of coping mechanisms or a loss of motivation.” The UK Government research shared their data based on research in England Key Findings • The COVID-19 pandemic led to increased adolescent depressive symptoms and decreased life satisfaction • If the COVID-19 pandemic had not occurred, estimates suggest that we would observe 6% fewer adolescents with high depressive symptoms which is a difference of 1.6% in prevalence (27.1% to 25.4%) • Girls’ mental health may have been more negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic than boys There are many reports available around this and I would invite you to read more extensively than what I offer in this blog post. In response to the outpouring of requests for help and support in shifting these energetic hangovers I have created a Teens and Young Adults Soul Reading . This reading supports self-understanding and identifies Soul based patterns and preferences to work with in this life, which can decrease anxiety and increase self-awareness and self-acceptance with a view to belonging in this world, at this time. Specifically, we will cover:
If you or your adolescent is struggling with any of the elements mentioned here, please do not hesitate to reach out to myself and others for support. As a gentle reminder, 'normal' has changed beyond recognition, all is well, and YOU ARE DOING GREAT. love and blessings, Fiona
