Girls Education Nepal - GEN

In addition to supporting local charitable works, every year, I have also sponsered at least one student through Girls Education Nepal. Girls Education Nepal programme was established in May 2005 by Nonna Giri (Lamponen) and Amanda McKay. GEN provides scholarships to Nepali girls from underprivileged families to attend school near their homes.
The GEN sponsorship covers all education-related expenses, and in some cases provides a small, daily lunch allowance. All fees are paid directly to the schools and the girls remain living with their families. Although there is no requirement for academic excellence GEN expect the girls to study as hard as they can, and attend school regularly.
Radha Rai, Jhapa, East Nepal ~ 2012-2016

Radha’s mother is deaf and mentally handicapped, and the whereabouts of her father are unknown. Her mother sought refuge in the house of Radha’s maternal uncle who is now taking care of them. The uncle works as a labourer but makes a meagre living. His income is not sufficient to look after the whole family.
GEN is providing Radha with full scholarship, including a daily lunch allowance.
Radha is sponsored by Fiona Malcolm from Scotland.
